Chinese Market Opportunities for International Firms
In the years since its initiative to open up to the world, and since its admittance to the WTO, China has striven to become a leading contributor to and innovator in the global economy.
Most recently, Shanghai and Hainan have taken steps toward deeper integration and acceptance of foreign-owned firms. In February 2018, the local Shanghai government mapped out 100 policy measures it aims to achieve by the end of the fiscal year. The Hainan government recently announced a new FTZ which will further simplify administrative and tariff pressures facing international firms.
As is apparent, policies geared toward relaxing protectionist measures have already
begun to take shape in China. The entire country will continue to open itself to Western
innovation and investment and will actively protect international IP rights.
