All about the YCT

The Youth Chinese Test (YCT) is an internationally recognized standardized test of Chinese proficiency for children, primarily aimed at primary and middle school students.
The YCT has 6 levels: four written and two spoken. Each level is taken independently so children with different reading v writing v speaking abilities can all give it shot.

How does the YCT compare to the HSK?
The YCT 1 is quite basic and YCT 2 is often described as the same level as HSK1. We disagree. The HSK 1 is much for difficult than YCT 2. Here is a general comparison of the two exams:

How do I register my child for the exam?
We have you covered. Registration is a bit tricky so we hired a full-time HSK/YCT expert to help with the onboarding and registration process. Please let us know when you and your child are ready to register and we can walk you through.
Should my child take the test?
We believe all students should consider taking the YCT. It is an amazing way to show off your child's skills and make them feel proud of the progress they have made.
Is there a prep class we can sign up for?
Manhattan Mandarin offers several different options for prep classes. Our semester-long courses are designed around the YCT and carefully go through the entire textbook. We also have test-prep courses that ensure students are ready for test-taking aspects of the YCT; what strategies to use, grammar to look out for, timing, ticks etc. Please see all our courses here.
