What Is The HSK?
The HSK, officially short for Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (汉语水平考试), is an internationalized standard test for non-native Chinese speakers to assess the Mandarin they use in their daily, academic, and professional lives. The test is administered by Hanban, an agency of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. The HSK consists of six levels: HSK (level I), HSK (level II), HSK (level III), HSK (level IV), HSK (level V), and HSK (level VI). As the level increases, the amount of vocabulary, characters, and difficulty increase as well.
Why Should I Take The HSK?
There are several merits to taking the HSK that go beyond basic assessment. Of course, earning an HSK certificate provides proof of Mandarin proficiency, however, it could act as an even bigger catalyst and pave new paths in your career and academic goals.
Almost all universities and colleges in China require non-Chinese students to submit HSK scores as part of the admissions process. Those aspiring to study in China will be able to utilize the HSK as a marker for their Mandarin proficiency. Therefore, an HSK certificate will mean roads to scholarships, grants, and participation in even bigger academic research programs for the future!
